 LOCH LEVEN, ANNE SHIVAS
Advice

a vise will hold wood tight as you saw—
nail a straight cut down—
seal each package well—

save string and tape, paper for tomorrow—
see 360 degrees, not just from a mountain top,
where shale slides under your feet

and learn to surf the hill—
even the keel on a calm run
sails goose-winged, Mara’s veil lifted—

did you ever find how many beans make five,
deal with the inner assassin
or bless the times you tried to keep the peace?
